Inspired by Stanisław Lem’s novel Solaris, this project explores the encounter with something that cannot be fully understood.
The landscapes become spaces of estrangement. Within them, the human figure appears small, isolated and strangely out of place — sometimes searching for connection, sometimes simply existing within an environment that remains indifferent and unknowable.
The covered body and obscured face suggest a loss of identity, while the recurring contrast between the human figure and the vastness of the landscape creates a sense of distance between the individual and the world.
I use surreal and unexpected elements to disrupt the apparent reality of these places. A familiar object can suddenly become alien; a landscape can feel almost sentient. Reality shifts into something uncertain, where the boundary between the observed world and the imagined one begins to dissolve.
As in Lem’s Solaris, the encounter with the unknown ultimately becomes an encounter with ourselves. The project does not attempt to explain the unknown, but to remain within that uncertainty — between attraction and alienation, recognition and estrangement.
